Our Stay at Landal Twenhaarsveld: A Wet but Wonderful Time

Landal Twenhaarsveld was our first stop on our huge Netherlands and Denmark adventure this summer, and if I'm honest, it was a bit of a mixed bag. Not because there was anything wrong with the park itself, but because it taught me a valuable lesson about booking the right park for the weather you might get! And I think the Netherlands can be quite similar to the UK...you can never predict months in advance whether you'll get rain in August or not!

The weather (and why it mattered so much)

It rained pretty much every single day we were there. Normally that wouldn't be the end of the world, but Twenhaarsveld is a smaller holiday park with very few indoor facilities. We're used to bigger parks with plenty of indoor space to retreat to when the weather turns, so this was very much a mistake on my part when I booked. If you're looking at this park, it's worth bearing in mind - it's brilliant in the sun, but there isn't a huge amount to fall back on if the rain sets in for a few days like it did for us.

The staff (and Bollo!)

The staff were fantastic throughout our stay, and a special mention has to go to Bollo, the park mascot. If you don't already know, my kids — especially the twins — absolutely ADORE Bollo. Any appearance had them starstruck.

Our accommodation

We didn't reserve our accommodation in advance, but ended up almost in touching distance of both the play park and the swimming pool, which turned out to be a brilliant stroke of luck.

The accommodation itself was basic, which we're used to and were completely fine with. My one real niggle was that the toilet didn't have its own sink, so you had to go into the bathroom to wash your hands - a small thing, but one of those little details that catches you out. On the plus side, the sofas in the living area were genuinely lovely and comfy, which made a big difference after busy days out.

The Facilities

Food and the onsite shop

We used the onsite takeaway on our first evening and were pleasantly surprised - it was good quality and reasonable value, a nice easy option after a day of travelling. The onsite shop was small but had lovely fresh bakery items every single day which smelt AMAZING. The shop was also well equipped with lots of kids toys and entertainment! I think you could also borrow games to play during your stay - sadly we didn't go for this as I was sure someone would lose some pieces (naming no names but they're both 3 years old!)

The play park

Despite the size of the park overall, the play park itself was brilliant. It kept the kids entertained for hours, rain jackets and all.

The swimming pool

This was a real highlight for us. With 3-year-old toddlers and two older but risk-averse kids, we don't need a pool packed with slides - we need space for everyone to just play, and that's exactly what this pool offered. We did have one less-than-glamorous incident involving some floating poop (holiday classic!), but aside from that we had lots of fun.

One particular highlight: on the Thursday before we left, we had the entire pool to ourselves for a WHOLE HOUR. I think a lot of families had headed home as Danish schools went back that week - lucky timing for us!

Would we go back?

On the whole, it's a lovely little park, but I don't think we'll rush back as a family. We need more facilities to keep our gang entertained, especially when the weather doesn't play ball. That said, I'd say this is the perfect park for a family with young toddlers only - if that's your stage of life right now, it's well worth a look.
